Palmetto Giving Day - Tuesday, May 5, 2020

It’s that time of year again... We are preparing for the largest one day giving day in Georgetown County – Palmetto Giving Day! This day has become so important to us: 1.) Because you have helped Teach My People raise in 5 days over 5 years almost $425,000 during the Giving Day! 2.) Because you have helped make Georgetown County a better place to live, work and play through the National Giving Day effort.

So, on May 5, 2020, we will ALL do something remarkable AGAIN for Georgetown County: Raise as much money as possible for the organizations throughout Georgetown County that make our community vibrant.

These past weeks have been unprecedented times for all of us. And now more than ever, your support is needed. For every gift given to Teach My People through PalmettoGivingDay.org, we will have a chance to earn a total match for Pawleys Island of $22,500 (AND GROWING) for Pawleys Island from the combined commitments of the Falk-Griffin Foundation, Mustard Seed Foundation, Palmetto Cheese, Kirk Gruber and Eric and Erin Spatz.  And we have a match of $15,000 for Georgetown from Harry and Beckie Butler and Georgetown Presbyterian Church.

PalmettoGivingDay.org is our online resource that connects donors with nonprofit organizations throughout Georgetown County. Giving on-line is the BIGGEST objective on Giving Day. Friends, families and associates can visit PalmettoGivingDay.org anytime between midnight on May 5th through 12:00 Noon on May 6th (36 hours).

This year’s theme for TMP’s Palmetto Giving Day is “For the Love of #TMP”. At Teach My People we support our students’ education, health, spirit, family and future. All donations will go a long way in helping us meet our match and reaching our goal of raising $125,000 for supporting our 104 students in Pawleys Island.

We pray that in the midst of our unprecedented crisis, Palmetto Giving Day would be a shining light within our community as we see nonprofit friends virtually gather together to make a difference in our community. Through the new CARES act to address the financial needs of nonprofit organizations: 1.) Taxpayers who take the standard deduction rather than itemize their deductions will be able to claim a charitable deduction of up to $300 for cash donations made in 2020. 2.) Individuals in 2020 will be able to deduct cash gifts to the extent of their entire adjusted gross income, and the deduction limit for corporations has been raised from 10% to 25% of taxable income.

To make this event a success, we ask you to consider the following ways you can help:

1. Follow us at www.facebook.com/teachmypeople and spread the word by sharing our posts!

2. Visit www.palmettogivingday.org on Tuesday, May 5th and make an investment in Teach My People. -OR- If you would like to write a check to Teach My People for Palmetto Giving Day, we need to receive the check by May 4th to count towards our matching gifts on May 5th.
